Have you ever wished that you had access to a new piece of technology or measure that would answer or introduce a developmental science research question? The DevSci Neurodevelopmental Core offers instrumentation, research space and support, and expertise in a variety of developmentally-sensitive methods. These include more traditional behavioral measures such as questionnaires and standardized tests, as well as eye-tracking, computer-based assessment, physiology, and electroencephalography (EEG). In order to catalyze and advance research consistent the DevSci mission, the Core welcomes researchers at all stages of their careers ranging from graduate student and postdoctoral trainees to experienced researchers who would like to use cognitive and/or neurophysiological measures to identify critical neurobiological developmental mechanisms. The Core has locations on both the Evanston and Chicago campuses, offering the same services and resources in each location. The Core will also offer trainings on these measures and approaches.
The Core is led by co-directors Brad Marino MD and Elizabeth Norton PhD. The newest member of the core leadership team is Rebecca Silton PhD, as the Neurodevelopmental Core Scientist. Dr. Silton’s research interests and skills are consistent with the DevSci “healthier, earlier” mission as she aims to characterize the building blocks of the mind that support well-being and psychological vitality, with the critical aim of translating these insights into neurobiologically informed treatment strategies that target malleable brain structures in individuals with mood, anxiety, and health-related disorders. She uses brain imaging methods that include high-density EEG and fMRI, as well as innovative affective and cognitive neuroscience paradigms that are adaptable for research in community-based contexts.
The Core team is happy to talk with you about how we can support your science, and would be happy to visit your department or unit to present. See how scientists are using the Core as part of their DevSci-funded seed projects here. To learn more, please visit the Core website here or email rebecca.silton@northwestern.edu.
